Overgrown
Gameplay Programmer - Technical artist
Synopsys:
Overgrown was a runner we did. the goal of the game was to escape the grasp of a wendigo, the monster of this universe.

Here is a video of the environment of the project. Please note that I my only contribution to the visual was through team leading near the end of the project but I'm putting it out here so you can have a better idea of the project.

Gameplay Programmer
I was the main programmer of the project. It was all done in blueprint inside the Unreal Engine 4 editor.

I programmed the menu (It was the first time I really played with widgets)
I programmed the player control as well as the anim blueprints. Even though the controls of the game were easy, doing the anim blueprints gave me a big hinsight into the world of animators.
I also learned how to use sequencer. though the final animatic was made by another member of the team, I was the one who first learned the tool and transmitted the information.
Sequencer has been a great tool for our project. I was in charge of learning it and transfer knowledge to other artists in the team.
Another big part of my task was to program the camera. For this, I made a blueprint of volume that when the player went through the camera would adjust itself.
Camera control boxes let us control the camera behavior in the game.
Finally, I did the optimization of the game. In the end, it was running at 30 fps on a 760M. I also learned how to use capsule shadows and indirect lighting volume to convey great lighting quality at a low cost.
The leftmost model seems much more grounded without additional light cost thanks to capsule shadow
This village scene was one of the toughest place to optimized but ended up running at 30fps on a 760M
Using indirect shadow caches, we were able to simulate real time lighting even though everything was baked.
TeamLead:
Near the end of the project when. In that role, I have managed meetings, assigned tasks to team members and determined priorities. I've been cited by our teacher as one of the two people that if they hadn't been there the project wouldn't have succeeded.
